our services || intro / day trip / overnight trip / buddies program / other enhanced services
The Adventure-Ship training programs are designed and customizable to the characteristics and needs of each group that comes onboard. They range in duration from one day to multiple day programs that involve pre-trip and post-trip sessions.
Onboard training can either be single day or overnight journeys. Groups may qualify for our special Buddies Program and/or the Shore-Based Training Programs.
The Buddies Program, launched in 1996, aims to promote the social integration of people with and without disabilities through our training trips in which groups of volunteers accompany the participants with disabilities. Each volunteer participates in the training on an equal footing with one or two buddies who have special needs.
The Shored-Based Training Programs consist of pre-voyage briefing workshop and post-voyage reinforcement program to better prepare the participants for the nautical training and help them to apply their positive experience learned on board to face challenges in their future life.
"My trip on Adventure-Ship was very meaningful. It was the first time I had ever slept on a ship, and I felt like I spent the night in the embrace of the sea. The night was tranquil, with nobody playing mah jong, and I completely enjoyed what nature gave me. I sat on the deck and watched the stars and enjoyed the fresh air. I cannot enjoy these things at home.
I learned a lot of new things, such as nautical knowledge. I went swimming in the deep sea and sailing. I also had to face difficulties and conquer fear.
In only thirty hours, I experienced so many things for the first time. Before the trip I was wondering why we would have to pay money to do these difficult activities. But now I know it's more than worth it."
- Yau Sum Yuen, 12-year-old participant

Each year, we provide approximately 9,000 young people with an opportunity to develop their self-confidence and sense of team spirit through our innovative sea activities. One-third of the participants are children and young people with physical or mental disabilities.
Since 1996, the Buddies Program has complemented our sea adventure training with a service for both young people with special needs and the rest of the Hong Kong community. The program's aim is to promote social integration of people with and without disabilities. The Buddies Program pairs groups of volunteers with participants that have disabilities. Each volunteer participates in the training on equal footing with one or two buddies who have special needs.
Over the past several years, Adventure-Ship has formed close connections with the special schools, rehabilitation service units and volunteers of different walks of life in promoting the integration of people with disabilities and the mutual understanding among other members of the community.
> To provide an opportunity for positive interaction between volunteers and young people with special needs
> To increase volunteers' awareness of people with special needs in Hong Kong
> To give participants with disabilities individual attention and friendship
> An enthusiastic and caring attitude
> A commitment to interacting with people who have special needs
> Swimming skills preferred, but not required
> Patient communication skills
> A willingness to be a partner, not simply a helper, of your buddy
> A commitment to the entirety of the buddies program, from the pre-trip briefing through the post-trip debriefing
In recent years, Adventure-Ship has been kept on developing innovative service projects. We have designed training programs with different focus and integrate with shore-based programs delivered by professional social workers to meet the needs of young people with problems encountered in the course of their educational pursuit or personal growth.
> "Life Navigator" extends the training to the shore by arranging pre-voyage briefing workshop and post-voyage reinforcement program for the trainees. The aim is to better prepare participants for the nautical training and help consolidate their positive experience learned on board for daily life application after the trip.
> "Buddies Program" aims to promote social integration of people with and without disabilities in which groups of able-bodied participants accompany trainees with disabilities to take part in our training trip on equal footing as buddies and support each other.
> "Life-wide Floating Classroom" provides an interactive liberal education platform for students and teachers. The program integrates our adventure-based sea training with personal growth education and project learning of different subjects to foster students' learning motivation and generic skills.
